The NCSA supports everyone who uses Cued Speech, regardless of language, background, or ability. It doesn’t matter if you use cochlear implants, hearing aids, sign language, listening and spoken language. If you cue, we support you.
While the majority of our members are associated with the deaf and hard-of-hearing community, we also work with other populations including (but not limited to):
- Auditory Neuropathy and Auditory Processing Disorders
- Autism Spectrum/Asperger’s
- Learning disabilities
- Non-native English speakers
Because Cued Speech links sound, sight, and kinesthesia at the phonemic level, many people, both with and without hearing loss, benefit from the multi-sensory nature of Cued Speech in several applications, including:
- phonemic stimulation for listening, speech, language and literacy
- presenting phonics to beginning readers
- learning the phonemics of an added spoken language
- speech instruction for articulation and disfluencies
- language development
- auditory discrimination and processing
- oral-motor patterning
